Thirty Years Later: The Devastating Floods of 1996

In January of 1996, there was a prolonged cold spell, with snow piling up in the mountains. Then came warm, monsoon-like rain. Torrents of water rushed down the overloaded river systems, eroding stream banks and blowing out many side canyons. The raging water downed trees and sent old logs surging down from the mountains. Towns throughout the county were severely flooded. Dairy farms lost their herds. Businesses and homes were underwater. Join Nehalem Valley Historical Society to hear the stories of heartbreak and destruction, but also of the community coming together to help those in need.  Come Share Your Stories!
