Choose Your Way To Go

Whether you’re keen to explore the natural beauty of Tillamook by water, trail, bike, or car, there’s an adventure waiting for every type of explorer. Stop by the Tillamook Chamber Visitor Center to grab maps of the area, insights on the best hiking destinations, and information on where to rent bikes, kayaks, and more to enhance your adventure. To find the best water trails, pick up a free Tillamook County Water Trail Guidebook, courtesy of the Tillamook Estuaries Partnership.

And when you’re ready to shift the adventure indoors, Tillamook doesn’t disappoint. With a lineup of activities including axe throwing, trivia nights, live entertainment, and vibrant community events, there’s always something happening to keep your spirit of recreation alive.

Know Before You Go

To ensure that time spent exploring is enjoyable for everyone, follow a few simple rules: dress for the weather and avoid wearing cotton (swimwear is ideal); sun screen, hats and sunglasses are always a good idea – even on a cloudy day, and pack plenty of water and insect repellant. Remember, not all areas of the coast have cell phone service coverage; having a paper map may help in your navigation or use the “offline” map option on your phone’s GPS on your way to your destination before you go!

If you plan to head to the beach, make sure to pick up a free tide book at the Tillamook Chamber Visitor Center, they are also available around the county. It is always a smart and safe idea to understand the tides and watch the weather forecast when venturing to the beach on the Tillamook Coast.

If you plan on kayaking: Don’t forget your water trail guide! Cape Meares Lake and Lake Lytle in Rockaway Beach are both great options for beginners. Spring Lake in Rockaway Beach is another easy body of water to get your kayaking legs underneath you. Kayak Tillamook offers regular kayaking classes for all levels of skill, and depending on the time of year, you can even find free kayaking tours offered through the Explore Nature series.
