Plants of the Wonder Garden
with Ketzel Levine
Wednesday, August 21 | 5:00-7:00pm
Hoffman Center for the Arts | 594 Laneda Avenue | Hoffman Wonder Garden | Manzanita
Five years ago, Hoffman Center volunteers planted a garden on the site of Lloyd & Myrtle Hoffman’s Laneda Avenue home. Today, that garden is a window on the world, where hebes from New Zealand flirt with dahlias from Mexico and Himalayan geraniums wave at wildflowers from the northwest coast.
The plants in the Wonder Garden have centuries of tales to tell, of horticultural finds that transformed continents and of plant hunters obsessed to death with their quarry. Even the names of plants are storied, memorializing everything from the Lewis & Clark Expedition to an English vicar’s love for his wife.
Join the Hoffman’s own garden curator, Ketzel Levine, for IN LIVING COLOR: PLANTS OF THE WONDER GARDEN, a two-part romp through the HCA’s botanical wonderland, beginning with an indoor presentation and ending with a garden tour to meet some outstanding plants. Refreshments will be served!
Former NPR correspondent, Ketzel Levine has been immersed in the plant world for decades. Her book, Plant This!, will be available for sale & signing at the event. All proceeds from the sale will go to the Wonder Garden. Pre-registration is encouraged
